Swimming Lessons - Level 5 - Freestyle

Aquatics / Swimming Lessons -
Summer 2020

COVID-19 has required us to make some changes to the way we conduct camps, clinics and activities. This program will follow all Minnesota Department of Health guidance for summer youth sports including smaller group sizes, more rigid sanitation procedures, participant health screenings, etc. Parents are asked to keep their children at home if they show signs of illness.

Instead of cancelling our summer lessons program, we have chosen to modify our lessons to match the Stay Safe MN Guidelines. We are making every effort to keep your students and our staff safe as safety has always been our number one priority. Listed below are the changes we have made to match the recommendations from the Minnesota Department of Health.

For All Levels

  • The number of classes scheduled at once will be reduced.
  • The number of students per class will not exceed 5 students and 1 instructor, with a goal of 4 students and 1 instructor.
  • Students will be spaced 6 ft apart during lessons and instructors will remain 6 ft from students except in cases of emergency.
  • Students and parents will be screened for symptoms when they enter the facility per the MDH recommendations.
  • Ill students will not be allowed to attend lessons.
  • Instructors will wear face shields while teaching.
  • Classes will end 5 minutes earlier than scheduled to accommodate deeper cleaning between classes. This includes
    • Disinfecting all high touch surfaces between classes
    • Disinfecting all equipment used during lessons
  • All students and families will be asked to exit through the patio doors at the end of lessons to allow for 1 way traffic as the next group arrives.
  • We will have students meet their instructors on deck for the first day instead of gathering in the bleachers.
  • Parents are encouraged to drop students off for lessons instead of waiting in the Aquatic Center when possible.
    • If your child needs assistance getting in and requires a parent to remain in the building, we will be asking these parents to sit in a designated area in the bleachers socially distanced.
  • Students will be asked to arrive in their swimsuits and leave in their swimsuits because locker rooms will be unavailable. Only 2 family bathrooms will be available for restroom use.
  • Students will be asked to arrive no more than 5 minutes before their lessons to allow time for cleaning between groups.
  • Students will not be moved classes throughout the session to reduce how many other students they are near.

Levels 4 and 5

  • Instructors will teach from in the water
  • Students will be spread out
  • Instructors will use flotation devices and props like noodles and kickboards instead of physical assistance when needed

During this level, swimmers will practice the crawl stroke on the front with breathing as well and be introduced to the crawl stroke on the back. The advancement goals for this level are 30 ft of crawl stroke with at least 4 correct breaths. To register for this level, children must be able to do 15 ft of side-glide kicking as well as 15 ft of crawl stroke on the front with no breathing. Goggles are highly suggested at level 5 and above. Swimmers with long hair are required to wear a swim cap beginning in level 5 to keep their hair out of their face while learning rhythmic breathing.

Children previously enrolled in Red Cross Level 3 should register for Level 5-Freestyle.

New Prague Aquatics and Community Education have made the decision to move from providing Red Cross lessons to the SwimAmerica program. SwimAmerica is a state-of-the-art, learn to swim program developed by the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) that is goal driven and technique oriented. SwimAmerica programs are operated by certified swim coaches who have achieved a minimum of ASCA Level II Coaching Certification. SwimAmerica is the only swim program endorsed by the American Swimming Coaches Association, the most prestigious coaches association in the world.

REFUND POLICY: Full refunds are given when Community Education cancels a class. Refunds (less a $5 cancellation fee) will be issued when a participant cancels a registration at least five (5) working days prior to the first day of class.
